The Forêt of Have is one of the large forests of Seine-Maritime, in Normandy. Of a surface of: 9300 hectares, this hêtraie is located in the Petit Caux at the North-East of the department and the area.

Natural environment

Narrow band of more than 30 km length on 5 to 6 km broad, the forest of Have recovers the Eastern part of the Plateau of Craie which separates the courses from the Yères and the Bresle, in the south-east of the town of Have. This space extends from Saint-Pierre-in-Valley, close to Have to the surroundings to Aumale and Mortemer.

The Forest of Have is made of several distinct units. Immediately to the south-east of Have the Triage extends from Have (: 1600 ha), forest of untied aspect recovering a small croup in edge of the valley of the Bresle and the slopes of the dry valley of Incheville. More in the south, the High Forest of Have (: 3500 ha), more massive, recovering a tabular croup of approximately 200 m of altitude. Near Aumale, the Low Forest of Have (: 2800 ha) occupy the southernmost end of the plate which revêt a more tabular aspect. These 3 solid masses are separated by rather vast cultivated spaces, formerly wooded. It is advisable to add some wood detached (from an total surface area of (: 1400 ha): wood of Early, Gomard, Cuverville, Saint-Martin-the-Strapping man, along the Yères, wood of Guimerville, the Large-Market in the south-east of Blangy-on-Bresle.

History, exploitation

Whereas the forest recovered all the plate between the valleys of the Yères and the Bresle until the An millet, of the clearings were undertaken 11th century at the 13th century. It is at that time that appeared the cultivated fields which divide the current forest of Have into 3 solid masses. The clearings slowed down with the 14th siècleavec the beginning of the Guerre one hundred year old, the invasions of the troops of king d' Angleterre which put a term at the prosperity of the Normandy. This stop continued in spite of the return to peace because of the development of the regular exploitation of wood. The counts of Have found more interest to sell the trees with the Charbonnier S, with the craftsmen of wood, the glass definitively to put in culture not very remunerative grounds (for 1/10) by taking possession on August 15th 1915.
