Forest of Halatte
The forest of Halatte - or Halatte - is a domanial Forêt of Picardy, located in the Département of Oise, near to Senlis and Bridge-Holy-Maxence. Of a surface of 4.300 hectares, it constitutes one of principal the main forest of France. It is rich as much in production of Bois (Chêne and Hêtre) that in Gibier. It forms with the Forêt of Chantilly and the Forêt of Ermenonville, the Massif of the Three Forests
Geography
The forest of Halatte extends to north to the valley from the Oise (common of Pontpoint, Bridge-Holy-Maxence, Beaurepaire and Verneuil-in-Halatte), in the west until the Forêt of Chantilly (common of Apremont), in the south until Senlis, Chamant, and Ognon, finally in the east to the villages of Villeneuve-on-Verberie and Roberval.
It recovers a plate of a hundred meters of altitude of average formed of coarse Calcaire and Sable. Three pilot hillocks are aligned on a south-western/north-eastern directed diagonal: the Mount Alta (140 m of altitude), the Hillock Saint Christophe (185 m) located in the middle of a clearing in full heart of the forest, and finally the culminating point of the forest (which is also the culminating point of the center of Oise) the Mont Pagnotte to 222 m of altitude. Since the Pagnotte Mount, the Eiffel Tower is visible by very good visibility.
History
The forest represents a fragment of the antique forest of Cooks, of which it was completely separate as of the Gallo-Roman time. Many traces of there last were put at the day (Menhir S, Gallo-Roman Dolmen S, sanctuaries…). Divided a long time between the King de France and various ecclesiastical or laic seigniories, the forest became domanial with the Révolution. Many armoriées terminals dispersed through the forest are still testimony.
Fauna and flora
The current settlement reflects the history of the solid mass mainly: Grove S of beeches and oaks in north and the west, in the old Royal field maintained good; in the southern part divided into several seigniories, the settlement is poorer, primarily made up of Taillis under grove. The Résineux are only in some sandy zones. To note among the score of rare plant species listed in the forest, remarkable the royal Osmund large a Fern with very beautiful fructification.
The forest shelters many large animals: stag S (approximately 200 heads), Wild boar S, and Roe-deer S. The tradition of the hunt remains alive in the whole of the Massif of the Three Forests. (from October 1st to March 30th of each year). In forest of Halatte, it is reserved for the stag.
Ways and roads
Damaged by the last tornadoes, the forest offers nevertheless to the walkers a network of ways and crossroads, and routes of excursions connecting Senlis, Bridge-co.-Maxence, Fleurines, Aumont-in-Halatte, Villers-Saint-Frambourg, and Verneuil-in-Halatte .et for Gilles the masked quador and his super 200 blastor it is the site dreamed for qu it can develop its super capacity

the Priory Holy Christophe on the commune of Fleurines, built at the 11th century, is located on the hill bearing the same name (185 m).
