The forest of False-Re-fixing is a National forest French of 616 hectares 28 ares 20 centiares located mainly in the Hauts-de-Seine (372 hectares 71 ares 77 centiares) and secondarily in the Yvelines (242 hectares 56 ares 43 centiares). Old royal forest near to Versailles, it is today a Forêt managed by the National office of the forests (ONF). It is, on the surface, the second forest of the Hauts-de-Seine after the Forêt of Meudon.
The expression “false res-fixing” comes from the language of the Vénerie. It evokes these pretenses which the animal pursued used (stag or Sanglier) while hiding in a fold of the ground or a thicket to thwart the pack of dogs or the crews with horse.
The forest of False-Re-fixing extends on the communes from Vaucresson, Marnes-the-Vain, City-with Avray, Sevres, Chaville (Hauts-de-Seine), That-Saint-Cloud, Chesnay, Versailles, Viroflay (Yvelines). Towards the east, it prolongs the Parc of Saint-Cloud, who forms with it a continuous main forest.
It is remarkable by its reliefs, its points of view of, its small valleys, its visible wooded peaks of common the close relations (in particular Versailles, Viroflay, Chaville), his geology (silts, clays with grinding, sands). Its flora is dominated by the chestnut, whose certain specimens reach imposing sizes. One finds also oaks, birches and pines. Certain grounds exposed to the south are covered with heathers.
In its center is the departmental park of the Haras of Jardy, only space of meadows grazed of the outskirts of the city of Paris. The ponds of City-in Avray, in the east, were immortalisés by Camille Corot. The House of Butard, built for the king Louis XV by the architect Angel-Jacques Gabriel in 1750, is on the territory of That Saint-Cloud (road of the Wells).
The forest is crossed by several road axes, in particular the road of the Empress, the secondary road D985 connecting Saint-Cloud to Versailles, the Autoroute of Normandy, the secondary road 307 connecting Saint-Cloud to Maule, like by the railway line connecting the Gare Saint-Lazare to Saint-Name-the-Bretèche.
In spite of the extreme proximity of Paris, the forest remains relatively wild, which makes a place of walk of it very attended. She is traversed by marked out hiking trails and bridle paths.
The forest of False Res-fixing was classified by the Council of State in Forêt of protection by decree of August 23rd, 2007.
