Wood like raw material
In the Sahel, the Bois is mainly used like fuel and construction material. Rural overpopulation broke balance between the man and the forest. In rural area, the daily taking away for the domestic needs for a long time reached an unbearable threshold. In urban area, the increasing requirements out of wood and coal still accentuate the pressure on the environment. It is estimated that the town of Dakar has an impact degrading on the forest being felt up to 800 km of distance! The increasingly frequent recourse of the populations to the gas bottles for the cooking of the meals does not result from an improvement of the standard of living but quite contrary to a degradation of an environment where wood is increasingly absent.
