Misaine ” indicates two things on a Bateau:

  1. the foremast , which indicates the Mât placed at before on a sailing having more than one mast,
  2. the foresail (or foresail ) is the sail related to this mast. On a Gréement with square headlights, the foresail is largest of the veils related to this mast; on one gréement bermudien, the foresail is the single veil related to this mast.

One also speaks about boats to foresail or " misainier " to indicate certain boats (like the dory, the Norway pine S of the basin of Arcachon or the Launch S of Honfleur), gréés with only one mast and a veil with the third.
