Foregrounds

The festival foregrounds is a cinema festival dedicated to the first cinematographic works European.

It is held each year with Angers, since its first edition in 1989, in the month of January. It puts at each season, in competition an about sixty first European films.

Official selection and price

The official selection of films in competition is distributed in 4 catégories :

  • first European feature-length films
  • first European short films
  • first French short films
  • European films of schools

In each one of these categories, several prices are décernés :

  • the price of the jury
  • the price of the public
  • possibly one or more bid prices by partners of the festival

According to the years and the partners, other categories (and prices associated) come to supplement the caused list.

Jeanne Moreau

Since 2003, the actress Jeanne Moreau is the faithful godmother of the festival. Jeanne Moreau ensured itself the artistic director.

In 2004, Jeanne Moreau, as an impassioned film enthusiast, is being at the origin of the integral retrospective of films of Bergman proposed this year in Angers.

In 2006, Homage to Louis Malle by Jeanne Moreau: " The obsession of the love and the women in the cinema of Louis Malle".

Workshops of Angers

Jeanne Moreau also has a school of cinema, " Workshops of Angers" who is an helping hand with the changing. Each year since 2005, this formation accommodates a score of young European realizers in search of improvement in cinematographic techniques. This formation is intended to give to them a decisive support at the time of their passage of the short film to their first feature-length film of fiction. Part of the program is accessible to a public from non-registered students.

The first year of the " Ateliers" Jeanne Moreau ensured itself the artistic director of the Workshops, supported by the Polish scenario writer Krzysztof Zanussi the Belgian and realizers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne.
