The Ford Escort is a car group Ford.

It acted in the beginning of a model designed bound for the European market. The name Escort in spite of was very applied to various models produced in North America, although some did not have any common point with the European Escort . In order to promote its new model which showed a technical Net delay on the production of the time (Peugeot 204, FIAT 128, Simca 1100, Renault 6,…) Ford quickly engaged Escort in competition by entrusting it in particular to Roger Clark who gained at once the Circuit of Ireland 1968. Its successes in rally were not going to be contradicted and Ford gained with the " mark one" (Mk1) the championship of Europe of rejoin of them 1968,1969 and the marathon Wembley-Mexico City 1970. The arrival of the " mark two" (Mk2) was going to confirm this sporting potential and allowed even Ari Vatanen to gain the Championship of the World of the Pilots in 1980.

In 1981, it passes from the technical archaism: rear drive, rigid axle, cast iron engines with front traction, independent aft wheels, and capped transverse engine of an alloy cylinder head. She is elected European Voiture of the year.
