Ford (France)

The creation of the Ford French Public limit company (or Ford SAF) goes back to 1920 whereas the factory of Bordeaux mounted imported frames. After association with Mathis, Ford subsidiary company France took again its independence in 1940 by opening a factory of production to Poissy.

Military trucks were produced there under control of the German army and it is in 1947 that the manufacture of private cars could start. The first model was in fact a Matford 13CV F92A V8 modernized with shifting of speed at the wheel.

In 1948 , the first Ford-SAF model was the Vedette with engine V8 (2  158 cm ³), based on a study of Ford the USA but not retained for the US market. Presented in 1948 and available in 1950, it was a truck cossue with two volumes " with back rond" who was altered at the end of 1952 to be presented with prominent trunk in three volumes.

At the same time in 1952, an automatic box half-compartment and convertible Cotal were presented. In 1954, the SAF launched the Comet , a half-compartment of luxury of almost 4 liters and a High-speed motorboat top-of-the-range, the Vendôme . But following the agreements with Simca which took again the factories of Poissy, the new models Versailles did not carry any more the Ford initials.

After adventures the company is integrated into PSA Peugeot Citroen.
