Forces of the air force and air defense of the Republic of Croatia

The military aviation and air defense Croatian (Hrvatsko ratno zrakoplovstvo I protuzračna obrana or HRZ I PZO) are a component of the Armée with the Republic of Croatia whose mission is to ensure the sovereignty of the airspace of the République of Croatia and the air support with the other components of the army in the execution of their missions. It also has as a function the organization of the anti-aircraft defense.

History

Created in November 1991, during the war of independence which opposed the Croatian forces to the Yugoslav Armée and with the Serb paramilitaries, the forces of the air force and air defense Croatian were initially equipped with small private planes and agricultural resulting from local aero clubs. Their missions, primarily concentrated towards the information, the transport of wounded and materials on the zones of conflicts will evolve/move with the arrival as from 1992, of the first fighter plans Mig-21 resulting from the defection of the Croatian piles of the Armée popular Yugoslavian and the parallel imports.

Organization

The command of the military aviation is located at Zagreb, on the airport of Pleso. It is ensured by the Brigadier general Vlado Bagarić.

    • 12 Semi-24D/V, reformed in 2002 (Semi-24D) and 2006 for (Semi-24V), a batch of 7 apparatuses is proposed with the sale in the state
    • 3 Soko G-2 Galeb, reformed in 1996, for lack of spare parts
    • 1 Soko J-21 Jastreb, is reformed in 1996, for lack of spare parts
    • 3 or + Soko J-20 Kraguj, réfomés because of their obsolésence
    • 5 or + Semi-8T/S Mil - use like elements
    • 11 Utva 75 - reformed and replaced by 5 Zlin
    • 11 Antonov Year-2 - returned to the aero clubs
    • 3 Tanker plane CL-215 - the last one was withdrawn in 2004, they were replaced by 4 Tanker plane CL-415
    • 4 MD-500C - reformed at the end of the Nineties

    • 1 Dassault Falcon 10 - replaced by a Bomber Challenger CL-604

The reform of the fighter plans Mig-21 is planned for 2010. An invitation to tender was launched for 12 general-purpose hunters (according to last information (10/2007) the ministry for Croatian defense did not make yet its choice between Swedish SAAB with its JAS39 Gripen and American Lockheed Martin with the F-16 Block 52). The 7 helicopters of attack Mil Semi-24 were reformed in 2006 and new flotilla of 15 helicopters of transport will be formed as of the reception of the new Semi-171Š helicopters as from 2008 in compensation of the credits of the Russian state.
