Force (Star Wars)

the Force is a kind of mystical element imaginary which gives great capacities to those which can use it. It is the element impossible to circumvent of the universe of Science-fiction the Star Wars . One can consider partly that the Force is with the science fiction what the magic is with the Heroïc-fantasy, but the concept of Force is a little more complex in the universe of the Star Wars . It indicates also a Philosophie and a kind of religion, the Force having sometimes its own will.

The concept of Force is not without pointing out the other mystical energies, promoted by the sects and mobilities New-old.

Definition

The Force is in all and each being of the universe. It is an intangible energy field which generates the life and allows its development. Its gasoline maintains the Galaxy in a whole single and only some privileged people can perceive it, to include/understand it and learn how to use it. It is about an energy which bathes the universe and connects the beings between them by an invisible bond. Certain beings, which have an high rate of Midday-chlorien S in blood, have faculty to use it to acquire various capacities, like influencing the weak spirits (kind of Hypnose), feeling the danger and even to a certain extent to have a presentiment of the future (Prescience), to raise remote objects (Télékinésie), to generate flashes and to acquire a perfect control of their body which enables them to make acrobatics. It also enables them to control their physical force. The intrinsic nature of the Force is neither good, nor bad, all depends on that which employ it and the way in which it makes use of it.

In the wide Universe, two opposite aspects of the Force are developed: the luminous side and the obscure side, which are defined by the moral character of the use which is made Force. Whereas the luminous side symbolizes the beauty and the kindness of the Force, the obscure side is fed by the fear, hatred, the aggressivity and the ill will. This last seems to grant more capacities to its followers; that comes only from the inexistence of restrictions as for its use.

Reflection and precision on the Force

The Force like substance and energy supports, connects, intends and makes the cosmological unit of the universe. In this direction, the Force places us directly with respect to a subjective and significant but especially intuitive perception of reality, perception taken with serious by the Psychologie which will see in the Intuition, an instinctual faculty connected to the Inconscient collective (if one believes of them work of Carl Gustav Jung).

Although it is indeed about a fantastic history, the Star Wars did not know such a popularity without reason. George Lucas said itself that its universe was anchored in a whole of Mythologie S, Légende S, and Conte S which it knew to synthesize, personalize and direct with its manner, that thanks to the works of the sociologist Joseph Campbell. However a history being such a success undoubtedly touches so that we experienced the every day. The Force is, within this framework, the digest of our significant perceptions but also of certain quite real human qualities: the fact of feeling something, to be suddenly “informed” by the body clearly shows the unverifiable influence of a force, of a sudden energy suitable for psychism that many psychologists take very with serious as Boris Cyrulnik and that they frame in the unconscious metabolisation of certain instinctual affects.

The Psilogie, the scientific study and in laboratory of faculties “psi” (hypothetical faculties of psychism exceeding the organic limits of the brain and the known capacities of the spirit like the psychokinesy, the extrasensory perception, the précognition, perspicacity.), undertook many work on many psychic potentialities whose causality remain still unexplainable. The borders between spirit and matter, physics and psychism are put more and more at evil by the results of the Quantum physics, the psilogy, psychology… If the Force like energy crossing us and connecting to us to the universe is not, for the moment, a scientific data, it however remains closely connected to discoveries in Astrophysique like the questions about the permeability of the vacuum, the energy of the vacuum. Moreover, if one conceives the Force like concept, one finds it in the stoical philosophy under many aspects (cf Marc Aurèle: interior genius, universe like a unified whole). The Force does not have anything completely unreal since it implies already a share of our phantasms but also certain recent scientific discoveries.

The Force at Jedi

The beings predisposed with the use of the Force are located by the order of the Jedi knights, who undertake to form them as of their more tender childhood, in order to inculcate values morals to them so that they do not fall on the obscure side (“Jedi uses the Force only for defense and knowledge, never for the attack”). With adolescence (precisely at the eleven years age), they are dealt with by confirmed knight and become them Padawan (disciple) or in certain cases, if it does not show enough maturity and interest to the Force, the initiate will be placed in various companies (agricultural or different standard) in order to serve the republic differently. However, if the initiate manages to be made locate by a Master, it will be able in its turn to become Jedi knight, then main Jedi if it became rather powerful in the Force, and sufficiently wise as for its use (it is this lack of wisdom which will prevent the accession with the rank of Master of Anakin Skywalker). The Force according to various points of view

According to Vergere, the Force includes all that saw, even the Yuuzhan Vong which do not appear in the Force.
According to Sekot, a kind of mysterious planetary intelligence, the Force known by Jedi would be only one facet of a whole much more complex, but especially more complete; Sekot calls that the " potentium".
According to Kreia, inter alia ex-Jedi and ex-lord Sith, the Force would have even a clean will, which would explain the visions of the future.

The obscure side of the Force

Master Yoda - considered the most powerful knight of the Order Jedi - gives to his young apprentice Luke Skywalker the definition on the obscure side of the Force: “ anger, the fear, the aggression form the obscure side of the Force ”.

The obscure side of the Force represents the perverse slope of the latter. The Force represents the fundamental belief about the knights Jedi, it acts “ of a fluid created by any living being, an energy which surrounds us and penetrates us and maintains the galaxy in a single whole ” according to the definition that Obi-Wan Kenobi in the episode IV of the saga gives of it ( a new hope ).

The obscure side of the Force is mainly incarnated by the Sith, which are in the beginning conquered people having rocked in the Shade. Sith are to some extent the night doubles of the Jedi knights, using of the same capacity (with alternatives) they direct it towards radically opposite goals: whereas Jedi make use of the Force and their capacities for the wellbeing of the community, Sith are attracted only by their own capacity and make use of the Force in this search. The senator Palpatine (who is actually different only sinks it Seigneur Sith Dark Sidious, one of more terrifying of all) underlines near Anakin Skywalker this ambivalence, this relationship between Jedi and Sith, although they are however so basically different.

Sith receive when they embrace the face sinks of the Force a Christian name: when Anakin Skywalker rocks in the obscure side of the Force, it consequently becomes frightening the Dark Vador. The obscure side can give capacities against nature to its more powerful followers. According to Palpatine/Dark Sidious, its Master the Lord Sith Dark Plagueis would have acquired a control on the obscure side of the Force so large that its capacity could direct Midichloriens, and confer immortality and eternal youth. But it is necessary nevertheless to announce the prowesses of the Palpatine Emperor who, after us to have astonished in films with his flashes, will start on the Byss planet another obscure capacity, which is recognized like most powerful of the attacks of the Force: a storm of Force, gigantic swirl of energy able to destroy a very whole fleet.

Another ambiguity: although it is ardently fought by valorous hero, the obscure side appears in Star Wars like a source of capacities infinite, very tempting. The Emperor (Dark Sidious) testifies to this power absolutist. One can as think as it is the capacity on the obscure side which made it possible Vador to survive its terrible wounds (following its combat against Obi-Wan Kenobi).

The Force at Sith

Some say that there are in the Force two sides, two different parts: the obscure side (Sith/black Jedi) and the luminous side (Jedi). Others say that it is only one question from point of view, of goal.

The race of the Sith (practically disappeared) used in a primitive but powerful way the Force. This use took the name of Sith Magic. This magic was banished by Jedi which thought that it perverted the spirit and the body. Many are those which were tried by its capacities and were caused interplanetary cataclysms (Schisme S). Exar Kun for example, a Jedi young person in search of knowing was allured by such a power. Its practice of this magic was such as it had managed to transform a whole people (Massassis, populates alive on the planet Yavin IV) into sanguinary monsters. But these practices had a price: the spirit sank in a fatal madness and the body was seen transformed in an irreversible way. Other Sith Lords sometimes made worse abominations still than the change of Massassis: Dark Nihilus (KOTOR 2) had acquired such a force, which it could reduce a whole world (Katarr, planet of the Miraluka people) to the state of desert without any form of life to appease its hunger which had with the intensive practice on the obscure side of the Force.

Moreover, certain people the such witches of Dathomir, who make use only of this capacity, are not aware that they use on the obscure side of the Force. But once Luke Skywalker theirs learns, they do not use it any more but with parsimony.

To underline: Dark Vador will be always relentless towards Luke (his/her son) to test its force.

Analogy

The Force, if one brings it closer to the real-world, would be the ki which is conveyed in all the Univers and thus also suitable for the Japan and the China.

She points out also the Quintessence which was regarded as a fifth element which connected all the being alive.

George Lucas moreover stated to be inspired, to create the concept of the Force, the definition of allied the Chaman ic appearing in the work Grass of the Devil and Small Smoke of Carlos Castaneda.
