Footix

Footix is the name of the mascot of the Football world cup 1998 which was held in France.

Footix is a Coq, symbol of France. It is drawn up on its legs, having arms and hands. Its body is blue, a broad red flange surrounds its head which is yellow.

Its name is founded on foot and the termination in " ix" who is in a stereotyped way associated with the Gaulois (influence of Astérix the Gallic ).

Its success was not really with go and it was curiously not officially associated with the competitions. It was reproduced on telephone series of charts, envelopes commemorative of the Post office, many advertizing objects.

It should not be confused with Jules which was the mascot of the team of France, a cock which had even less success in spite of the French final victory.

Anecdote

In the French popular culture, today a Footix nominates also a person proclaimed car fan of football or to support of a football team of the day at the following day after a media event like the Football world cup 1998 and which is unaware of all or almost this sport. Generally the footix change team supported according to the scores. It is the French version of the " to fair weather fan" Anglo-Saxon.
