Fontenay-the-Fleury

Fontenay-the-Fleury is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately ten kilometers in the west of Versailles.

The inhabitants are the Fontenaysiens .

Geography

The commune of Fontenay-the-Fleury is in the Plaine of Versailles to 7,5 kilometers of the center of the prefecture.

It is bordering on Noisy-the-King to the north-north-east, of Bailly in the North-East, Saint-Cyr-the School in south-east, of Bois of Arcy in south-west, Villepreux in the west and Rennemoulin in the North-West.

All the northern part of the communal territory, is 75% of the surface, is agricultural. The urbanization took place in the south-south-east of the commune, along the communal forest known as of Fontenay-the-Fleury. In extreme southern limit, last this forest, the High of Fontenay are located on the plate of the commune of Bois of Arcy. The inhabitants of the hundred houses Tops of Fontenay closer and are turned besides towards Bois of Arcy that towards their commune of membership. The northern limit of Fontenay-the-Fleury is consisted the Ru of Gally, affluent of the Mauldre. The commune is crossed by the Aqueduc of Avre, work underground which feeds Paris out of water.

The commune is served by the secondary road 11 connecting Versailles to Plaisir. The secondary road 127 allows, since this D11 and starting from the western end of the agglomeration, to reach Bois of Arcy and, beyond, the Trunk road 12 and Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines.

In the railway plan, the city has a station on the line of Railroad Paris-Montparnasse - Dreux via Plaisir which crosses the south of the commune between the center of population and the communal forest, still accentuating separation between the High of Fontenay and the heart of the city.

History

The name of “Fontenay” derives from the Latin , fons, subsidence , the source or the fountain.

At the 17th century, the commune of Fontenay-the-Fleury was included in the “large park” consisted Louis XIV to have reserves of field of Chasse.
