Folgoët

Folgoët ( Ar Breton Folgoad in ) is a common department of the Finistere, in the area Brittany, in France. The name comes from the nickname given to Salaün, “the insane one of the wood” (rear Fol Coat), which lived wood where currently the commune is. Salaün is at the origin of a legend which engaged the construction of the basilica.

History

  • 1409 : foundation by the duke Jean V of the vault of Folgoët under the term of Notre-Dame
  • 1790: the parish of Guiquelleau is set up in commune under the name of Folgoët
  • August 23rd, 1829: transfer of the parochial center of Guiquelleau towards Folgoët

Structure

The Basilique has one of very rare the Jubé S of France.

Event

A forgiveness takes place there each year first Sunday of September.
