Floyd Gottfredson

Arthur Floyd Gottfredson , born the May 5th 1905 in Kaysville in the Utah (the USA) and deceased the July 22nd 1986 with Montrose in California (the USA) is a draftsman and scenario writer of Cartoon.

Walt Disney entrusts to him the adventures of Mickey Mouse at the beginning of Ub Iwerks in April 1930 whereas he is only one recent employee of division " animation" of Disney. Initially restive, he is convinced by Disney which makes the point to him that this employment is only temporary. He takes again then the scenario of Mickey in the infernal valley (begun on April 1st) left by Iwerks and integrates the characters of the short films. Its station is officialized by Disney the May 5th 1930 whole while remaining limited in time. The history continues until September 1930.

It continues with scénariser and to illustrate the adventures of Mickey as cartoons until the November 15th 1975, date on which it takes its retirement. Mickey de Gottfredson remains the reference for all the authors who followed. One owes with this author the final physiques of Dingo and Pat Hibulaire, as well as characters like the Commissaire Finot, Iga Biva or the black Phantom.

One can note some events thanks to his abundant production which had a daily pulling. Thus Gottfredson does not produce any drawing between June 1945 and April 1946. It is after its return to the production that it starts the production of identical stories lengths on 12 tapes instead of the preceding random durations.

Like Carl Barks (Donald Duck) and like all the Disney draftsmen, Gottfredson is not authorized to sign any of its cartoons. Its name starts to be known fans during the Années 1960, and of the republications of adventures of Mickey mention officially its existence in the Années 1970.

Floyd Gottfredson became a Disney Legend in 2003.
