Florimond de Mercy-Argenteau
Claude Florimond, count de Mercy-Argenteau is a Belgian diplomat born with Liege in 1727 and died with London in 1794.
Wire adoptive of the Field-marshal Claude Florimond de Mercy, it was initially representing court of Vienna to Turin then with Saint-Pétersbourg. Large admiror of the empress Marie-Therese of Austria, it replaces in 1770 Starhemberg at the post of ambassador of Austria to Paris where he is the spy of the empress near the young person Dauphine Marie-Antoinette of Austria. Wishing only the happiness of its former student and fearing constantly that this one suspects it of espionage, it tries to influence it in favor of the house of Habsbourg, with the risk to make it hate of the French. It tests réfréner vainly the expensive tastes of the queen.
He considers and puts in the head of the dauphine one that she can very easily control Louis XVI, probably scatterbrain. This big mistake pushes Marie-Antoinette with a contempt with respect to the Dolphin, which is however of a remarkable intelligence.
In 1789, Mercy-Argenteau leaves Paris and becomes representing of the emperor Joseph II with Brussels in the Austrian Netherlands, before being named at the same station with London in 1794, little time before its death.
In 1775, it had bought the baronnie Conflans-Holy-Honorine after the seigniory of Neuville on Oise where it had been established. It made there embellish the castle. It had installed its mistress, the professional singer Rosalie Levasseur in the hamlet of Chennevières dependant on Conflans.Il often came to visit it (a hybrid child was born) and the way which it borrowed of Neuville from Conflans nowadays calls " street of Ambassadeur".
