Florimond Long Minton
Florimond Long Minton is the giant local of the town of Doullens.
As its name indicates it, it has a protruding chin. Its face, seen profile, makes think of a crescent of the moon whose lower end is precisely the chin and the higher point is drawn by the visor of its cap of peasant or Picardy gardener of the Entre-deux-guerres. A thick moustache covers the mouth to him and it carries a tie in ribbon tied to the collar of its " shirt " (shirt). The chain of its watch-bracket draws an arc of clear circle between one of the last large buttons and a pocket of its black waistcoat with handles. Heavy a " patalon " (pants) with work, solid and resistant, in Velours of Amiens covers its legs. On its raised left front armlever, fixed well with the fold of the elbow, a wicker basket is suspended.
It is the 3rd version of the famous giant who made his official appearance in the streets of the city, on Sunday, March 18, 2007, the former models (with structure of wood and wicker) having been destroyed or having been made unusable.
The character himself was born from imagination and under the feather from the director from the local newspaper “Small Doullennais” and picardisant author, Charles Dessaint, who published texts, regularly of 1925 to 1935.
The first realization of the giant of parade was initiated by the " Trade union of initiative" time and, during the inauguration of the business week, on November 10th, 1935, Florimond-Length-Minton was presented to the population. High of 6 m and with a reinforcement in wicker, drawn by an ass during its displacements which were not limited to the only town of Doullens, it made its office until 1940. Sheltered in the Village hall, places Thélu, it did not survive alas the allied bombardments of 1944.
The second giant Florimond-Length-Minton, of the same size, was built in 1952.
