Florida is a town of Uruguay, capital of the department of Florida. It is located on the coasts of the Río Santa Lucía Chico and its population is of 32.128 inhabitants. The city was built the April 24th 1809 and it took the name of city ( ) the April 19th 1894.
History
The foundation of the town of Florida is very closely related to the history of all the country. It was founded the April 24th 1809 then its population increased in importance when in 1811 the inhabitants followed the first signs of the revolution directed by Jose Artigas what led later to the independence of the country. Later, by the development of the department, it was necessary to build a bridge on the río Santa Lucía Chico to facilitate East-West displacement, it was in this city that it was built, which made city an important point of contact between the areas of the country.
