Florennes
Florennes (in Walloon Florene ) is a common French-speaking of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Namur.
The name Florennes is derived from Latin Flos meaning flower. One racconte also that the name of this commune comes from valorous Gallic of the name of FLORUS which, charmed by the place, would have founded the city there.
The city has very old origins. Its armorial bearings (a strong castle cossu and openwork of many windows) are already present on old seals of 1560 and 1644
Its castles, its farms, its monuments testify to the events which marked its history.
Its folk traditions more than centenaries, see ravelling many walkers equipped with Napoleonean costumes to the sound of the fifres and drums. For celebrating all that well, Florennes has two artisanal beers.
With the 1st January 2006, the total population of this commune was of 10.754 inhabitants (5 275 men and 5.479 women). The total surface area is of 134,37 km ² what gives a Population density of 80,03 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The principal rivers crossing the commune are the Molignée and the Flavion towards the Meuse as well as the Thyria and the Ruisseau of Yves towards the Eau of Hour, a Affluent of the Sambre.

Base Jean Offenberg
Noting a fault in the defense system air of the Luftwaffe between the aerodromes of Saint-Trond and Laon-Athies, the Germans undertook the construction of the air Military base of Florennes in 1942. During the war, the units of hunting of night of the German army were sheltered there (Messerschmidt 110, Focke Wulf 190 and Junckers 88).

The base of Florennes acceuille the 2nd Tactical Wing composed of the 1st Flotilla (conventional offensive operations and air recognition) and of the 350ème Flotilla (air defense); T.L.P. (Tactical Leadership Programs) and the Museum Spitfire.
Reception center Fedasil
Opened in urgency the 12/23/1992, the Reception center for request asylums of Florennes accommodated 9000 request asylums of 90 different nations, of Africa, of Europe, of Balkans, of the ex-USSR, of Asia and the Arab Countries.
