Florence Ballard

Florence Glenda Ballard , born with Detroit the June 30th 1943 and died in the same city the February 22nd 1976 is a singer states-unienne. Eighth of a family of thirteen children.

The Supreme

Career of Florence Ballard starts in 1959 when it forms the group The Primettes , which accompanies The Primes on scene and which is composed of Mary Wilson, Diane Ross and Betty Travis. When Berry Gordy, of Motown, sign the group in 1961 and forces to him to change name, it is Florence Ballard which proposes The Supremes, against the opinion of the other members of the group. The name likes Berry Gordy, it is adopted. Initially, Florence Ballard will be lead singer the Supreme ones, have regard to its exceptional vocal qualities. But very quickly (1964), the very ambitious Diana Ross takes her place, and the success which was long in coming for The Supremes is fulgurating. The great proximity which bound the members of the group does not exist any more. After The Supreme

In 1968, Florence Ballard Marie with Thomas Chapman and sign a two year old contract with ABC Records , and it is George Kerr, old of Motown, which produces its first disc, heading It doesn' T matter how I say it . The sales are not good and ABC Records decides not to even leave the album which has just recorded Florence Ballard. In 1971, it attacks Motown, considering that its old label owes him of the royalties. The judge will slice in favor of Motown. It then makes a pause in its career to deal with her children. In 1975, after a very bad master key (Drug S, alcohol…), it makes its return, with a certain success, its concerts attract a public many and enthusiastic, the projects multiply, it is reconciled with her husband… The following year, in only 31 years, she dies of an heart attack. Leaving three orphan: Michelle, Nicole and LISA.
