Flora Steiger-Crawford

Flora Steiger-Crawford , born on September 1st, 1899 with Bombay and dead on July 30th, 1991 with Zurich, is a Architecte, Designer and Sculptrice Suisse.

Biography

Flora Steiger-Crawford is the first graduate woman architect of Switzerland. She studies under the direction of Karl Moser with ETH of front Zurich to d´ouvrir, with her husband Rudolf Steiger in 1924, an agency of architecture.

They carry out the same year the house Sandreuter with Basle which is the first building of Art nouveau of Switzerland.

Steiger-Crawford takes part in all the projects of the agency, but concentrates particularly on the particular houses and the interior architecture. It draws pieces of furniture, like the chair Stapelstuhl for the Zett House.

In 1938, it leaves the profession to be devoted to the sculpture. It is the mother of the architect Peter Steiger.
