Flor Alpaerts
Flor Alpaerts , born with Antwerp the September 12th 1876 and died in this same city the October 5th 1954, is a Belgian Compositeur.
In 1901, Flor Alpaerts finishes its musical studies at the Flemish School of music of Antwerp, which will become later the Flemish royal Academy. He studied the Harmonie and the composition with Jan Blockx. In 1903, he becomes professor in this institute which he will direct from 1934 to 1941. During one season (1922-1923), he is also director of the Opéra royal Flemish of Antwerp, with low the Arthur Steurbaut.
Its notoriety like Type-setter and Leader will come just after the First World War, when it succeeds Eduard Keurvels as leader in the concerts organized by the royal zoological Company of Antwerp and becomes artistic director of the “Funds Peter Benoit”. It also directed the group choral “Arti Vocali”.
As a type-setter, Flor Alpaerts was the leader of the impressionist movement Flemish, which was closer to Richard Strauss and Ottorino Respighi that of Claude Debussy. The Symphonic poem Pallieter (1921-1924) was one of the culminating points of this movement. It creates a work expressionnist with his continuation entitled James Ensor , inspired by four works of the painter ostendais. It will turn to the neo-classicism in its later compositions.
