Flight 431 Kenya Airways
The flight 431 of the Kenya Airways damaged at sea the January 20th 2000 with 21 h 09 (UTC), shortly after its takeoff of the airport of Abidjan.
There were 179 people on board, including 169 passengers and 10 team members. 10 passengers survived crushing. 146 bodies were recovered, 103 identified.
Circumstances
The flight, party of Nairobi, with the Kenya, was initially to make a stopover with Lagos, with the Nigeria, before continuing until Abidjan, in Ivory Coast. Because of a sandstorm coming from the the Sahara, which decreased the visibility, the airport Nigerian had then stopped any landing and any takeoff.
The Kenyan plane had thus had to carry on its road to Abidjan. The weather conditions on the Ivory Coast being also bad, the apparatus must have had patience during three hours before taking again the airs for Lagos, with 21 h 08 (UTC), but had been damaged in the Atlantic Ocean less than two minutes after takeoff.
