Fliegerfaust
The Fliegerfaust , also called Luftfaust is an individual weapon against the planes flying at low altitude.
Fliegerfaust can be regarded as the ancestor of the famous missile launcher FIM-92 current Stinger American.
History
This weapon was developed in 1944 with the request express train of Hitler by German company HASAG (Hugo Schneider AG) of Leipzig. Its intention was to produce a weapon similar to the Panzerfaust (anti-tank rocket launcher) but with an anti-aircraft use.An order of: 10000 launchers and of four million ammunition was launched. Only approximately 80 launchers were delivered in the last days of January 1945 to a unit of Saarbrucken for tests on the ground.
Description
This weapon consisted of two principal parts: the launcher with nine tubes and the store of nine rocket S (each rocket had a diameter of 20 mm, weighed 90 G and had 19 G of explosive matter). The loading of the weapon was done by the back by introducing the store of nine rockets. To make fire, the gunner compressed a spring on the tube of pushed by means of a metal block with its right hand, its left hand maintaining the handle of ordering of firing. With the ordering of firing, the spring released the tube of thorough which struck a generator which caused an electric impulse which was then transmitted to the back of the rockets by an electric cable.
The fuel of the rockets ignited, two salvos separated by 0,2 second were launched, a first of five rockets, then another of four rockets. The purpose of that was to reduce the vibrations of the weapon and to increase the zone of dispersion (60 m for a range of 500 m).
