Flexible birch

The flexible birch or red wild cherry tree ( Betula lenta ) is a tree Décidu of North America of the family of the Bétulacées.

Use

Its wood with the tight grain is used in cabinet work. One extracts from the bark by Distillation an aromatic oil rich in Salicylate of methyl, with the properties Analgésique S and Anti-inflammatoire S, very similar to that of the of wood ( Gaultheria procumbens ). One makes an external use in the form of ointments of it, of liniments and balsams to relieve the muscular and rheumatic pains. One also uses it in Confiserie and Parfumerie for his savor and his flavor.
