This article relates to the Institution of the Flemish Area like bench with Belgian laws. For general information on the Flanders, to see the article Flanders (Belgium); for a summary of all the significances, to see Flanders.

The Flemish Région is one of the three areas of Belgium. It was created in 1980 by modification of the Belgian Constitution at the same time as the Walloon region and the Area Brussels-Capital, as well as modifications in the constitution of the communities. The Flemish area is consisted of the five Belgian provinces of language Dutchwoman. Although these provinces are officially unilingual in Dutchwoman, there exist French-speaking Minorités in Flanders from which the rights vary according to the commune in which they reside.

Since the area and the Flemish community amalgamated the regional and Community institutions, there exist in practice only unified institutions (formally, it is the Flemish Community which exerts competences of the Flemish Area). There exists only one council and only one executive of the community and the Flemish area, respectively called Flemish Parlement and Flemish Gouvernement which exerts Community competences in the whole of the Flemish community and regional competences only in the Flemish area. The area and the community thus have the same legislative council (elected officials of Brussels Flemish not having however the right to vote about the Flemish regional businesses), and the same government.

Provinces of the Flemish Area:

  • Province of Antwerp (in Dutch Antwerpen )
  • Brabant-Fleming (in Dutch Vlaams the Brabant )
  • Flanders-Western (in Dutch West-Vlaanderen )
  • Flanders-Eastern (in Dutch Oost-Vlaanderen )
  • Limbourg (Belgium) (in Dutch Limburg )

One will find more information on the Flanders in the general article on the Flanders.
