The Royaume of Grenade is the last Moorish ground in Spain, point final of the Reconquista for the Castillans.

The object of this article is to describe the historical events for the periods of Ziris and Nazaris, as well as the ultimate account of the Wars of Grenade in the last decade.

This kingdom knows three periods.

The taifa

After the collapse of the Caliphate of Cordoue, the Zirís establish a Taïfa on the urban area and its province around.

See the detailed article Taïfa de Grenade .

dating: 1039 - 1090 (?)

Domination almoravide

Grenade ceases being managed by local princes during this period. All Al-Andalus is between the hands of the Almoravides in 1094.

Under the attacks of their competitors, Almoravides disappear at the time of the Conquête of Almohades of the country, in 1147.

Vassal of Castille

See also: Nasrides, Emirate of Grenade

dating: 1238 - 1492.

The Nasrides make control on Grenade, and establish a emirate there while being subjected temporarily to the Castillans by the means of a Serment of Vassalité, lent to Ferdinand III in 1246, following the capitulation of Jaén.

This vassalage will be alienating for their camp; it will enable them nevertheless in the years without war to build the palates of the Alhambra, their Joyau X.

Taking into account successes of the Castilians, which will have to make a pause to integrate the grounds conquered in the middle of the 13th century, this kingdom, directed by the Nasrides as from 1238, becomes the last bastion remaining of Al-Andalus on the Iberian peninsula, until its transfer in 1492.

The territory corresponding becomes the Andalusia, increased zones of Seville, Cordoue and Gibraltar, in the Spain of today.
