Flavius Oreste was born in Petavium, village of Pannonia on the Drave (affluent of the Danube), in a rich person Roman family near to the imperial court. His/her father was certain a Tatulus, of Germanic origin, but it was to adopt by the Count of Norique Romulus, which claimed to go down from the King de Rome Romulus. It was very near collaborator to Attila (probably its secretary).
Attila died in 453, his sons disputed the capacity, precipitating the end of the empire of the Huns. One finds Oreste several years after, with the head of the confederated cruel troops which constituted the imperial army of Italy.
In 475, it deposited the emperor reigning Julius Nepos and placed on the throne his son, the teenager Romulus Augustule, keeping for him the title of Patrice.
Oreste refused to yield to the claims its troops, inspired by the barbarian chief Odoacre, which required the possession of the third of grounds of Italy. Its soldiers revolted and in 476 during the seat of Pavia killed it.
