Flamengo (Rio de Janeiro)

Flamengo is a district of the Southern zone of the town of Rio de Janeiro, with the Brésil. This district has a beach and a park with the same name. The close districts are inhabited more and more by the middle-classes, but there remains always some apartment of luxury on the avenue which skirts the beach.

The name of Flamengo is a homage to the navigator flamingo (actually Dutch) Olivier van Noort, called the Blonde , who has edge of her ship called Urca was in Rio de Janeiro during the XVIII° century. Thus were born three districts from the town of Rio de Janeiro: Flamengo , Leblon and Urca .

The Flamengo district is also recognized for its football club, Clube de Regatas C Flamengo which is popular and which is one of the clubs most supported in Brazil.
