Flamarens

Flamarens is a common French, located in the department of the Gers and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

The Pilgrimage of Compostelle

On the Via Podiensis of the Pilgrimage of Saint-Jacques-to-Compostelle.
One comes from Saint-Antoine-on-L' Arrats, the next commune is Miradoux, old country house.

History

Etymology: the name of Flamarens would be of Germanic origin, derived from the radical fran , some Flamarius lord of the place. According to the oral tradition: formerly the village would have been called Arens but following a violent one sets fire to the inhabitants would have associated the concept of flame with the old term which would have thus become Flamarens .

The Viscounts of Lomagne, Durfort, Galard, then Grossoles had this seigniory. On the site of a “castrum” attested in 1289, Jean de Grossoles, lord of the place made it build in 1469 by mason Limousin a stone.

One said then: " Lo castèt of Flamarens, Study Bureau dehore, Study Bureau deguéns" (the castle of Flamarens, beautiful outside like inside).
But it was degraded and in 1851 the Agen-native poet Jasmin translated that by: " poulit deforo, led dedéns" (beautiful outside, ugly inside).
A fire in 1944 failed the achever.
