Flagstones

The Dales is a race of Poney.

Like the Fell, the Flagstones is originating in the Pennines. Although larger, it resembles to him by many characteristics.

Morphology

Solid, powerful and conformed well, the Flagstones is fast, enduring and elegant. For all these qualities, he is appreciated on the grounds of contest, primarily in raising, but also in jump and attachment. the head is fine and expressive, although sometimes a little long. The chamfer rectilinear, and is busqué sometimes a little. The ears are typically ears of pony: small, fines, mobiles and cut out well. The nose is him as well drawn and mobile. The body is quite formed: the neck is beautiful, the round and powerful croup. It happens sometimes that the back is a little long, or shoulders it a little short. This small Cheval gives a show of force. The members are long and fine, and as provided, fine, silky and undulated pennons as those of the Frison

It measures of 1,40 m to 1,44 m with the garrot. It is in that a little larger than the Fell. The dress is black, burned bay or alezane, sometimes gray with the birth, while bleaching throughout its life. The only allowed white marks are a small star at the head and not more than one principle of Balzane to the one of the posterior ones. The shoes are made of a caracteritic and very hard black-blue horn.

Character

It courageous, is balanced, voluntary, persevering and enduring. It gives the impression to be always co-operative. It has a strong temperament however, with the height of its force and its power. This is why it is appropriate better for the confirmed riders.

Origins

Endemic of the Yorkshire and the east of the Pennines, this race was improved by Welsh cob, which gave him its paces fluid and elegant, and a little by Clydesdale.

A rare pony!

Following the requisition as of these horses by the army at the time of the Second world war, this race failed to disappear. These are the great qualities of hiker (foot sure, paces active and comfortable, full with energy and volunteer) which saved it as from the years 1950. The Company for the Improvement of the Pony Flagstones classified it " in way of extinction" until 1970, where it passed in the " category; pony rare". There is hardly more than 600 Flagstones in the world currently.

Use

This small horse was employed much in the mines: they can carry up to 125 kg and draw a ton.
