Flagey platform

The Plate-Forme Flagey was created in June 2003 with Brussels. It is about an example of spontaneous participation whose result was a political recovery of the asserted elements.

The Platform gathered inhabitants, associations and professionals of town and country planning:

The purpose of the combat of the Platform was to assert contests of architecture to Brussels for the projects of importance, like the Place Flagey, and also to assert more Participation citizen in the decisions relating to the environment of the inhabitants of Brussels.

To prove that these claims were not only possible, but especially desirable, the Platform organized an international call to ideas, and collected, in one month only, not less than 96 projects coming from the whole world. This phenomenal success was bread blessed for the media which largely covered the event and woke up blow the interest of the politicians concerned.

It is in November 2003 that the Platform diffused its text of claims widely called Constats and Proposals for the refitting of the Flagey place.

One year and a minister later. The contract of the firstly selected architect for the refitting of this space was broken and an international contest was organized, which constitutes a step of giant in an area as Brussels where this kind of practice had never yet been able to lead to a concrete plan. And the citizens were not forgotten since a Point Flagey Information was little open of time after in order to holding the informed inhabitants.
