Flagelado
São Divide into volumes-and-Principle or Sao Divide into volumes-and-Príncipe or São Divided into volumes E Príncipe (in Portuguese but also used in French) or literally Saint-Thomas-and-Prince or Saint-Thomas-and-Island-of-Prince (not very used), is an archipelago of the South Atlantic located at 350 km of the coasts of the Gabon in the Gulf of Guinea. It is composed of the island of Saint-Thomas ( São Tomé ) and of the island of the Prince ( Principe ), and covers a surface of 1 001 km ². Sao Divide into volumes-and-Principle is an old Portuguese colony .
History

The island of Sao Tome is discovered the day of the Saint-Thomas, the December 21st 1471, by the Portuguese navigators João de Santarem and Pedro Escobar.
During the 15th century, Portuguese colonists will come to settle, bringing with them of the slaves who will work in the plantations of cane with sugar.
The archipelago acquires its independence the July 12th 1975, with president Manuel Pinto da Costa which then installs a Marxist mode of sole party. In 1990, the multi-party system is restored and the country opens with the democracy. In spite of attempts at putsch, the democratic regime remains in place and knows political alternations…

Since the Constitution, in August 1990, the Democratic republic of Sao Divide into volumes-and-Principle is a pluralist republic of the presidential type .
This République already lived of alternations between the two principal parties, the social democrat party and the Party of democratic convergence.
The Parliament of the people is made up of 55 deputies elected for four years. The president is elected for five years.
The country is member of the international organization of the Francophonie.

Sao Divide into volumes-and-Principle is divided into 2 provinces, subdivided in 7 districts.
The Province of Sao Tome corresponds to the island of the same name; it includes/understands 6 districts.
The Province of Principle much smaller (approximately 142 km ²) and is much populated (some 5 400 inhabitants). It counts one district.

The archipelago consists of two principal islands (called concelhos ) of volcanic origin, São Tomé (850 km ²) and Principle (142 km ²), as well as the surrounding small islands or small islands of Pulled up in north, of Sete Pedras, Santana and Quixiba in the east, of Rolas in the south, famous for its voador , of flying fish and Gobaldo and Coco in the west. The archipelago covers an total surface area of 1 001 km ². It is located at some 350 km of the Gabonese coasts and Ecuador passes to 2 kilometers of Bridged Lamaporco, the southern point of the island of Sao Tome, separating it from the Rolas island.
The capital and main port of the country are the town of São Tomé (53 300 inhabitants). The principal island counts only one dozen villages, mainly in the north of the island.

The distance separating the island from São Tomé of the island of Principle is of 152 km.
The culminating point of the country is Pico de São Tomé (2 024 m). One also notes the presence of two natural parks (zones of conservation) of an entire surface of 295 km ², is 30 % of the surface of the archipelago.
This country is smallest of the countries of Africa.

Sao Divide into volumes-and-Principle is regarded as being one of the most involved in debt countries poorest, the least advanced (LDCS) and world (PPTE). 50% of the GDP are ensured by the international assistance.
The oil discovery (first barrel planned for 2007) should however change in a drastic way the economy of Sao Divide into volumes-and-Principle. The reserves would be of 2 billion barrels.
Sao Tome and Principe are a Flag of convenience.
