Flag of the Island-of-Prince-Edouard
The flag of the Island-of-Prince-Edouard (Canada) is a banner drawn according to the provincial armorial bearings. The proportions of the flag are 3:2; the three sides far away from the chechmate are bordered of red and white alternating bands.
One the higher third of the flag shows the English heraldic lion which appears at the same time on the armorial bearings of Prince Edouard Augustus, Duc of Kent and Strathearn, whose province bears the name, and on those of the king Edouard VII. The lower two-thirds show an island on which three germanders appear (on the left) - representing the three counties of I. - P. - E. (Prince, Queens, and Kings) - under the protection of a large oak which represents Great Britain. This symbolism is also reflected in the provincial currency, Parva sub ingenti (the small ones under the protection of large).
