Flag of the Guinea New Guinea-News
The flag of the New Guinea-News Guinea was adopted on July 1st, 1971.
The two principal colors (black and red) are for a long time the colors of the tribes papoues.
In the black part is represented the Croix of the South which is the most known constellation of the southern hemisphere and appears on several other flags of which that of the Brésil, the Australia and the New Zealand. The constellation is in white in order to point out the colors (black-white-red) of the German Empire whose New Guinea was a colony in 1918.
On the other part is a Paradisaeini, bird originating in the island.
The dessinatrice is a 15 year old coed who gained a contest organized in all the country in order to determine the future flag of the country.
