Flag of the African Union

The flag of the African Union (UA), which replaced the Organization of African Unity (OAU), is composed of broad band horizontal green in top, broadside of a thin band Jaune. In lower part broad band white is carrying the emblem of the organization, broadside of a thin band Jaune, itself bordered broad band green all in bottom.

The green symbolizes the hope and the aspiration with the unit of the African countries, the yellow the richness and the smiling future of the continent and the white the purity of the desire of Africa to have friends in the world

The central emblem is composed of a chart of the unintermitting yellow African, without any marked border, in order to represent the unit, surrounded by a thin green circle, and another yellow circle. Sheets of palm tree leave the yellow circle to symbolize peace. In lower part, seven red intertwined circles incarnate the blood poured for the release of Africa and African solidarity

This flag is the same one as that of the OAU, which had adopted it in 1970, seven years after its foundation. A competition for A-grade officials had been launched in 2000 to find new, but the UA finally gave up this project.
