The old flag of South Africa went back to 1928.

The orange, white and blue bands horizontal (Princevlag) paid homage to the Dutch flag of 1652, date on which Jan van Riebeeck accosted in South Africa.

With the center of the flag were laid out the Union Jack English at the side of the emblems of the Orange and the Transvaal.

This flag symbolized the white history of the country.

It had succeeded itself the British red ensegn, often used and adapted in the British colonies and dominions.

In the Sixties, it had been planned to modify it to remove the reference to the Union Jack and to replace the flags of the center by a Springbok and of Protéas whereas the orange, white and blue colors would have been laid out vertically.

The project was abandoned in 1971.

Another house of use
