Flag of Saint-Christophe-and-Niévès
The Flag of Saint-Christophe-and-Niévès was adopted officiellemnt the September 19th 1978; it was selected after a local contest.
Description
The flag takes again the Panafrican Couleurs, although the significance is different. The rectangle is divided by two triangles: a green triangle symbolizing the fertility in top and a red in bottom evoking the fight of slavery lasting the colonial period.Broad band black bordered of yellow edgings is located on the diagonal; the black color is a recall with the African heritage.
Lastly, two white stars are posed in the middle of the band, symbol of the hope and freedom but also of the two islands which compose the country
History
After having belonged to the British Isles of the Wind until in 1958, Saint-Christophe-and-Niévès were transitorily integrated in the Fédération of the Western Antilles until in May 1962. Wishing more not to belong to the British crown, islands of Saint-Christophe, Niévès and Anguilla obtiennet statute of autonomy by forming Holy Christophe-Nevis-Anguilla. In 1971, Anguilla rebelled and obtained the right to make secession but it is only on September 19th, 1983 that the state was dissolu.
