Flag of New Brunswick
The flag of the New Brunswick (Canada) is a banner taking again the elements of the provincial armorial bearings and was adopted by decree the February 25th 1965.
The proportions of the flag are 8:5; the lion gold on red bottom on one the higher third of the flag represents as much the bonds of New Brunswick with the area of Brunswick in Germany and with the British monarch.
The lower two-thirds of the flag are occupied by a Spanish galère, the traditional heraldic representation of a ship. Its appearance at sea on the flag represents naval construction, one of principal industries of the province at the time of the adoption of the armorial bearings and for the major part of the history of the province.
