Flag of Nauru

The Drapeau of Nauru was adopted the January 31st 1968 at the time of the Indépendance of this country with respect to the Australia. It was created by an inhabitant of the island employed by manufacturing Australian Evans flag.

Symbolic system

The yellow band (report/ratio: 1:24) on blue bottom represents the equator crossing the Pacific Ocean. The separation of the flag in two evokes the duality of the place of origin of the first inhabitants.

The white star placed under the yellow band symbolizes the position of the island of Nauru to 42 kilometers in the south of the equator. Its twelve branches symbolize the twelve tribes at the origin of the population of the country.
