Flag of Liberia

In 1822, Liberia is rested by an american company of Colonisation ( The National Colonization Society off America ), to install released black slaves there. They obtain a flag in 1827, to replace that of the the United States which then carried 24 stars to the Canton. The flag is thus freely inspired by it.

This flag is seen on many countries around the world, because of registration with weak taxes in this country. It is estimated that 1600 boats sail under this Flag of convenience, that brings a good part of the income of the country.

The bands were carried from 13 to 11 to remember of the eleven counted representatives of the three (Montserrado, Grand Based and Sinoe) who signed the declaration of Indépendance. The star replaces the cross to show the independence of the only free Republic of Africa.
