Flag of Hungary
The Drapeau of the Hungary is composed of three horizontal bands red (above), Blanc He and Vert E. The flag made its first appearance in 1848 (movements revolutionary), but within the bicephalous Austria-Hungary only in 1867 was essential. Until 1945, it was struck of a royal crown in its center. The current form of the flag was adopted in 1957.
It is a rectangle of proportions 1:3.
Origin
The current flag of Hungary finds its origin in the national movement of freedom of before 1848, which gives place to a revolution within the framework of the Printemps of the People. It was not only one revolution against monarchy to constitute a republic, but also a national movement against the Habsbourg. Thus, the tricolor shape of the flag is based on the French flag and ideas of the French revolution, while the colors red, white and green were taken with the historical armorial bearings of Hungary. These armorial bearings appeared in the middle of the 15th century even if the current version differs by some details. These armorial bearings are made of weapons appeared between the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 12th century as weapons of Arpadiens, the founder family of the Hungarian dynasty. All in all, the Hungarian flag finds its origins in the republican movements of XVIIe and XIXe century (concerning its tricolor form) and in Hungary of the Middle Ages (as regards the colors).
The folkore of the romantic period allotted to the colors virtues: red for the force, the white for the faith, the green for the hope. One also could interpret the red like the blood poured for the fatherland, the white for freedom and the green for the countryside and the grazing grounds of Hungary.
Historical flags of Hungary
Like one describes it above, the Tricolor red-white-green seemed a sign of national sovereignty during the revolution of 1848-1849 against Habsbourg. After the revolution was repressed, the flag was prohibited by the Emperor of Austria.
It is only after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 that the Tricolor became not only legal but also the official flag of Hungary. The flag then had what one called the weapons minors of Hungary with archangels raising them. This configuration was used until the end of the Empire of Habsbourg in 1918.
After the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the years between 1918 and 1920 was disturbed and perhaps of many minor changes on the flag of which it is difficult to find the trace were carried out. The colors remained the same ones, it is the blazon which could change. The only exception was the period of the République of the Councils which lasted about 100 days and which adopted the red banner.
It seems that between the 1920 and 1944-45 Tricolor with the minor weapons of Hungary without the archangels was used.
Between 1946 and 1949, the crown at the top of the blazon was removed.
In 1949, the new Soviet weapons of Hungary were placed in the blazon.
During the Insurrection of Budapest, the revolutionists removed the Stalinist emblem and thus used the flag perforated in the medium like symbol of the revolution. During a few months, the new mode decided to replace the blazon with the minor weapons without the crown on the flag.
After the repression of the insurrection by the Red Army, during the communist restoration, in 1957, the Communists created a " nouveau" blazon but it was never put officially on the flag. This is why the flag of Hungary remained only tricolor since 1957.
After the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, there did not need thus to change the flag which did not carry any communist badge.
A few years ago, the Committee of the Symbols recommended that the blazon was to belong to the flag of State but not of the national flag. That was not legally approved but in the majority of the cases the weapons are used on the flag.
