Flag of Honduras

The Drapeau of the Honduras holds its origin of the flag of the plain Provinces of Central America which gathered between 1823 and 1839 most of the Central America. The flag as for him was officially used the January 9th 1866.

Description

The three horizontal bands evoke the geographical location of the country, namely a strip of land (the white band) wedged between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea (blue bands). One retouve this diagram in the Flag of Nicaragua. The white color more specifically symbolizes peace and the properity.

In the center of the white band, five stars with five branches are placed forming a Croix of saint André; it is a recall with the five countries which formaientt the plain Provinces of Central America.

Naval flag

The warships of Honduras hoists a slightly different flag since the five stars are replaced by the armorial bearings of the country.
