Flag of Burkina Faso
The Drapeau of the Burkina Faso is made of two bands horizontal, a red above and a Vert E below. In the medium a star with five branches Jaune is. The red represents the color of the socialist revolution and the green the richness of Burkina Faso. The yellow color of star represents the light which guides the revolution. The green, the red and the yellow are also the Panafrican colors .
It replaced the old tricolor horizontal black-white-red when the the Upper Volta became Burkina Faso in 1984. Indeed the country had just known a " socialist revolution and populaire" directed by the captain Thomas Sankara, who wanted to mark a rupture with the preceding modes. The change of flag fell under this logic.
To note for the little story which the Burkinabe flag resembles an old flag of Viet-Nam.
