Fléron

Fléron (in Walloon Fléron ) is a common French-speaking of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege, with the Pays of Herve.

At July 1st 2004, it counts 15 885 inhabitants (7 480 men and 8 405 women) for a surface of 13,74 km ².

The commune includes/understands the sections of: Fléron, Magnée, Retina and Romsée

Etymology

The oldest trace of the name " Fléron" go back to 50 years before J-C. According to a legend, a young slave was named " Flos" thanks to its prettiness similar to that of a flower. He became soon a rich person very recognized horticulturist. One baptized the city which he lived " Fleuron" who transformed himself into " Fléron". Fléron is described as " city with the campagne" although being very close to Liege, and to some extent the door of the country of Herve for the people coming from Liege represents.

Line 38

Line 38 was a railroad before. In 1875 the section Chênée is inaugurated - Battice, in 1895 one supplements it by creating the section Battice - Plombières. This one is in charge of the routing of the coal of Fléron towards the Germany and of non-ferrous metals, of Plombières towards the basin mosan. In 1917, during the First World War, a connection of 1,2 km was built between Hombourg and Montzen, making it possible to gain the new line 24. This section, called line 38/1, also passed by Hindel. The unrestrained competition of the car rings the knell of the lines of countryside… The movement of travellers is stopped on Line 38 on June 2nd, 1957. Little by little, the goods traffic is him also forsaken. In 1992, the line is removed iron. Thereafter, it became a splendid center of walk (Réseau RAVeL).
