Fjell

Fjell is a commune of the Comté of Hordaland, in Norway.

It is made up the many islands (more than 500) located at the west of Bergen, most important being Sotra (its northern part), Bjorøy and Turøy. Construction, in 1971, of the bridge ( Sotrabrua ) connecting Fjell to the continent, as its proximity with Bergen led the population of the commune to climb of 7000 in 1970 with almost 20.000 today.

The principal economic activities of Fjell are related to the oil exploitation in the North Sea: construction of equipment, industry of services (maintenance), etc fishing and the breeding remain also important sectors.

Fjell means " montagne" in Norwegian (Nynorsk).
