Fjall

The Fjall is a bovine race Swedish.

Origin

It belongs to the Scandinavian branch . It is an old race directly resulting from the populations raised by the Viking S. It comes from the central mountains of Sweden. Following many crossings, the race failed to disappear in the Eighties. Since 1995, the stockbreeders are federate in association and manpower weak but are stabilized today. (around 1000 individuals) Of the seed of bull frozen in the Fifties and Sixties allows to manage consanguinity in this restricted population.

Morphology

It wears a mottled white dress of red and black. The distribution of the spots is done on the sides, by leaving the belly and the virgin dorsal line. Its mucous membranes are black and it does not carry horns.
C' is a cow of reduced size 125 cm with the garrot for 380-420 kg. The bull measures 135 cm for 600-850 kg.

Aptitudes

It is a mixed classified race. It is initially high for its 5500 kg of milk by lactation, but the best reaches 11.000 kg. Its milk is rich fat contents 4.5% and protein 3,6%. They are good values for valorization out of butter and cheese. The carcasses of cull cows provide a Viande quality.
It is very well adapted to the cold climate.
