Fixed (flora)

The fixed ( Zantedeschia aethiopica (L.) Spreng.), not to confuse with the true fixed ( Calla (kind) ), is a plant tuberose of the family of the Araceae originating in South Africa.

Zantedeschia aethiopica - faulty name, because it is not indigenous in Ethiopia - is the white arum florists, abundantly used in decorations of church and the bouquets of bride. This delicately scented species is frost susceptible except in the areas with soft climate (southern of England, west of France). The cultivar `Crowborough' is more rustic and can with the help of a good mulching spend elsewhere the winter outside.

This `arum', which requires much water to thrive, prefers a marshy ground and even supports to have the feet in water. In drier ground it often loses its sheets during the summer.
