Five Fingers
the Five Fingers is a composition for Piano of Igor Stravinski. It consists of eight very easy parts in which the right hand exploits generally only five notes. Rhythmic and melody complexity increases parts progressively.
1. Andantino
Short movement in major C mainly in 2/4, of form A-B-A.
2. Allegro
Also in major C and 2/4, this movement is longer than the first and its construction, still A-B-A, are more complex.
3. Allegretto
This short movement is also in major C 2/4.
4. Larghetto
One of the most melody movements and most beautiful, it is the first movement out of the original tonality of major C, i.e. as a semi minor. He is into 6/8.
5. Moderato
A painful movement following the precedent well since it is as a semi minor, and 4/4.
6. Lento
The first movement where the right hand must change position (twice) during the part (the second movement thus being the last). Probably the most particular part, since the left hand plays in minor D while the right hand plays in major D. In 3/4.
7. Vivo
Part in major F, 3/8 of form A-B-A. B is rather particular since the left hand plays in two times whereas the line plays in three times.
8. Heavy
As its title indicates it, this movement is very heavy. It is mainly made up of repeated agreements and abrupt changes of major modes to minors. Though the movement returns to the original tonality of major C, and into 2/4, many deteriorations leaves us sometimes perpexle as for the tonality.
