Fischbach is a Luxembourg locality and the chief town of the commune bearing the same name. The commune of Fischbach is one of the 116 communes of the Grand-Duché of Luxembourg in the canton of Mersch, district of Diekirch.

The Castle of Fischbach

The small village of Fischbach is very known for its castle which belongs to the Luxembourg large-ducal family. According to the tradition, it is not occupied by the Head of State (which lives with the castle of Colmar-Berg) but by other members of its family.

After its abdication, the large-duchess Charlotte lived there with her husband until his death in 1985. Then, it is the large-duke heir Henri, the large-duchess heiress Maria-Teresa and their five children who lived there until their accession with the throne in 2000. Several their children carried out their baptism or their communion in the small church of the village.

Currently, the castle of Fischbach is occupied by the large-duke Jean which abdicated in 2000. In 2005, his wife the large-duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, born princess of Belgium, died in Fischbach of a cancer.
