First lieutenant

Premier-lieutenant is a military Grade, according to the country, the hierarchical row of the bearing officer this perhaps different rank, but corresponds in general to the second rank of officer of an army. Lieutenant is the equivalent rank in the French Army . With the the United States it is about the rank of First Lieutnant or 1st Lieutnant (first lieutenant).

Switzerland

The rank of first lieutenant (in German Oberleutnant ) is the second rank of the officers of the Swiss Armée. It is located between the rank of lieutenant and Capitaine. Lieutenant and first lieutenant constitute the subalterns Swiss army. There is de facto only few differences between the two ranks from the point of view of the function, the first lieutenant being finally only a " lieutenant senior" with a few years of seniority.

The promotion of the rank of lieutenant to the rank of first lieutenant, once carried out a certain number of courses of repetition or years of seniority reached, is practically automatic (provided however of a penal judgment which could prevent promotion).

The Swiss rank of first lieutenant corresponds to that of lieutenant of the French Army and of first lieutenant of the US army. Its badge is represented by two gallons (bars) fine gilded (or two black bands/horizontal bars on the battle dress), whereas the lieutenant has one gallon.

The first lieutenant, just like the lieutenant, have in theory the function of (20 to 40 men) or officer section head of company (assistance of the commander of company). The substitute of the commander of company is in theory a first lieutenant.

Let us note however that at the time of a service of advance (in a school of recruits), the company is ordered by a first lieutenant who is in fact a future captain who " exerce" with the function of commander of company (it will carry the rank of captain only after having carried out this practical service).

A first lieutenant must carry out 600 days of service (situation 2006) before being released of his military obligations.
